The Main Articles That Promote Good Health
Health, as defined by the World Health Organization, is a condition of “complete physical, mental and emotional well-being” and not just the absence of illness and infirmity. A variety of other definitions have also been used over the years. For the purposes of this article, a definition that the WHO uses in its assessment of human health has been adapted as the foundation for a universal health system. It also serves as a point of reference for the various stakeholders within the global health system.
Let us first look at some of the general characteristics associated with health, as described in the main article on the topic. They are physical, emotional, social and behavioral. A good health state is determined by a combination of all of these three components. The three components can be studied individually or in combination, but they are always interdependent. A good health state is also characterized by low levels of stress, high levels of social support and good nutrition, as well as a good balance between occupational and recreational activities. Stress can lead to a variety of health problems and illness.
Health education is an important factor in the overall health care system. Public health aims to promote a healthy lifestyle through education, prevention and control of illness and injury. Public health also aims to improve the health of the economy through better nutrition and effective work practicability, through better utilization of resources, through the reduction of costs, through better health management and through the maintenance of a balanced economic structure. As part of this strategy, the role of the family is also being considered.
In order to build a healthy society, public health science must incorporate two basic principles: first, that health is a complex process and that individual differences contribute to its prevention and control; and second, that physical activities, like exercise, reduce the stress involved in life and thus contribute to better mental health. It follows from these two principles that public health scientists are trying to develop better tools and techniques for the prevention and control of physical disorders and diseases. They are trying to achieve this by improving our knowledge of the causes and treatments of diseases as well as their effects on the body, as well as studying the ways in which social systems and the environment may affect the development of physical illness and disease.
Prevention is better than cure. Prevention is a better way of dealing with physical problems as well as psychological issues. This principle may be illustrated through an example. If you work in an office cubicle for eight hours a day and see no change in your body temperature because of too much heat or too little sunshine, you should start sweating, even if the office is unventilated. You have a greater chance of catching cold than if you had gone out into the fresh air to cool off, or even if you were at home.
Lack of sleep and rest can cause numerous health problems, including physical illness and disease, as well as psychiatric issues and poor mental well-being. Health professionals are particularly concerned about this fact. According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, “too little sleep can contribute to metabolic disease, increased blood pressure levels, heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular risks.” Lack of sleep and rest also contribute to weight gain and to negative moods and feelings, causing depression, anxiety, and poor self-esteem. Thus, not getting enough sleep can lead to a host of negative consequences, which can all add up to a poor self-image, and to an overall feeling of poor health and fatigue.
